Question: How do I create a plan to increase donations for a non-profit?

I am a recent graduate who just started my first “real” job. I need to come up with a concrete “business” plan to show my boss how I plan to generate more furniture donations for a non-profit furniture store. I could really use some help with how to form the plan on paper so it is impressive, I already have a lot of ideas of how to generate donations but I could always use more and I am unsure of how to shape the business plan my boss wants or if it would even be considered a business plan. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Answer: If you use Microsoft Office, there are free templates on their website that you can download. At a quick glance I didn't see any specifically for non-profits, but you could adapt the style to your project if you're mainly looking for format ideas.

Question: How to contact a charity organization to make donations in a childs name…?

My daughters first birthday is comming up soon. My husband and I both have huge families that plan to attend the party..however, our family is blessed with plenty and we would like to ask the guests to bring a small donation , instaed of a gift, so we could donate it to a chairty in my daughters name, and we can celebrate my daugters birthday with a cake and a good time and know that we have spent our money for a good cause. How do I go about contacting, and finding a chairy to donate to? I would like to donate to something like the ronald macdonald house or something that has to do with helping sick children. Any suggestions would be great.. thanks
p.s. my husband has type one diabetes and if anyone knows of a diabetes charity for children that would be great also..

Question: Ex-spouse refuses to get personal belongings. Where can I make donations for money in chicago, Il?Please help?

I’ve been advising my ex-spouse to come and get his belongings for over three months now. He refuses and told me to throw them out. He left behind a lot of nice clothing, shoes even some very untacted furniture and appliances. Please help me in finding a location in Chicago IL or Chicagoland suburbs?

Answer: Do you have it in writing from him that you should throw out his things? If not, I'd try to at least get an email from him saying that you should do so.

Question: Can I use my furniture donation as a tax deduction?

I have been trying to sell my 8-yr old used bedroom furniture and it’s not going. I am thinking of just donating it to the Salvation Army. Can this be used as a tax deduction? On their site, it says the normal value of full bedroom sets is $250-$1,000, and I am asking $600. What is the procedure? Is this worth it?

Answer: Certainly. You would go by thrift shop value. When you donate it, ask for a donation receipt with the donated value, to use for preparing your income taxes. Anything that gets the taxes down is definitely worth it!

Charitable Giving Recession

Question: How has the Credit Crunch and Recession effected people giving to charity?

Are people becoming less charitable? Have you seen any examples?

Answer: I can't say I've seen any examples although I'm sure that people will donate less in terms of physical cash. That said there are many other ways that people can give to charity like donating their time or old clothes/books etc so perhaps many people will seek to do that as an alternative.

Also if times are hard people will probably visit charity shops more and as such save themselves a lot of money - I like to think that they'll then feel the need to give something back by doing something like what i've mentioned above.
