Question: Can I use my furniture donation as a tax deduction?

I have been trying to sell my 8-yr old used bedroom furniture and it’s not going. I am thinking of just donating it to the Salvation Army. Can this be used as a tax deduction? On their site, it says the normal value of full bedroom sets is $250-$1,000, and I am asking $600. What is the procedure? Is this worth it?

Answer: Certainly. You would go by thrift shop value. When you donate it, ask for a donation receipt with the donated value, to use for preparing your income taxes. Anything that gets the taxes down is definitely worth it!

Is it true that the Salvation Army will pay your rent if you are unable to (only once) ?

A person at work told me that if you are unable to pay your rent then the Salvation Army will help you by paying it but only once? I don’t know if this is true or not. I know the Salvation Army accepts donations and sells it at their thrift stores, they’re just like Goodwill Stores. I’ve looked at the Salvation Army website and no where does it say that they will cover a month’s rent if you are unable to. Does anyone know if this is true?

If I donate to the Salvation Army can I claim that on my taxes?

I heard that if I donate to the Salvation army, which I do on a monthly basis, I can claim it on my taxes. But do I need to actually go in the store to get a reciept or something because I usually just drop it off at the drop off centers and never actually go into the store.

Hi, I have already sent in an application to volunteer with the Salvation Army in my city this summer, but was hoping to get a better idea of what I may possibly be assigned to do. It will be my first time volunteering with them, but I have heard great things.

Has anyone volunteered with the Salvation Army before? If so, what positions do they have? For example, can I work inside the store, sort through donations, etc.

We need a second car for both my husband and I to drop our kids off at daycare and go to work. We figured out our bills and can only afford the insurance on another car, not another car payment. I have heard that people donate their cars to the Salvation Army and was wondering who they sell them to and what I need to do to buy one. Or if anyone in the Lansing MI area that has a cheap, good running one for sale, I would be willing to look at it.
