Question: I’m looking for a Chicago area charity that will pick up furniture donations.?

Answer: hi, there is a web site called...freecycle.org, on this site you can tell people what you have and they will come and get it from you, it is a nice place to give things to people without throwing it away, i have been a member for along time, i just got a 27inch color tv from a lady, it works fine (panasonic)....check it out

Question: List of perpetual donations to humanity?

I’m doing a research study on various methods of donating “something” to humanity which would be perpetual. That means that society or humanity will benefit from this act or this donation, well after your death.

Examples are:
1. Wilderness Protection;
2. Inventions;
3. Acts of kindness;
4. Exceptional teachers (Abe Lincoln wouldn’t have been where he was without a great school teacher);
5. Religious truths;
6. Nobel Peace Prize winners;
7. Philosophies of life;
8. Leading an exceptional life;
9. Having “successful” children (they don’t have to be wealthy to be exceptional);
10. Leaving a particular legacy;
11. Super Mom or Dad;
12. Scientific contributions.

If you have any ideas, please feel free to let me know. If you have one idea – great! If you have many ideas – that would be fantastic!

Thanks!

Answer: A great piece of art (Mona Lisa), literature (War & Peace), architecture (Eiffel Tower) ...etc.

Question: How do I create a plan to increase donations for a non-profit?

I am a recent graduate who just started my first “real” job. I need to come up with a concrete “business” plan to show my boss how I plan to generate more furniture donations for a non-profit furniture store. I could really use some help with how to form the plan on paper so it is impressive, I already have a lot of ideas of how to generate donations but I could always use more and I am unsure of how to shape the business plan my boss wants or if it would even be considered a business plan. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Answer: If you use Microsoft Office, there are free templates on their website that you can download. At a quick glance I didn't see any specifically for non-profits, but you could adapt the style to your project if you're mainly looking for format ideas.

Question: Can I use my furniture donation as a tax deduction?

I have been trying to sell my 8-yr old used bedroom furniture and it’s not going. I am thinking of just donating it to the Salvation Army. Can this be used as a tax deduction? On their site, it says the normal value of full bedroom sets is $250-$1,000, and I am asking $600. What is the procedure? Is this worth it?

Answer: Certainly. You would go by thrift shop value. When you donate it, ask for a donation receipt with the donated value, to use for preparing your income taxes. Anything that gets the taxes down is definitely worth it!

Question: Does anyone know of any organizations that will donate toys for needy children?

I work @ a small sheriff’s office in North GA, and we sponsor a program for less fortunate children @ Christmas time. This year our funds are very low, and I was wondering if there was anyone out there on the web that could help guide me in trying to get donations from some of the larger toy companies or stores.

Answer: Walmart has always been generous to the community they serve.
