Christmas Donations For Children

Question: Does anyone know of any organizations that will donate toys for needy children?
I work @ a small sheriff’s office in North GA, and we sponsor a program for less fortunate children @ Christmas time. This year our funds are very low, and I was wondering if there was anyone out there on the web that could help guide me in trying to get donations from some of the larger toy companies or stores.
Answer: Walmart has always been generous to the community they serve.

Question: I need a little help with a community service project.?
My small rural town has a not for profit group that does community projects through out the year. From banquet for the seniors to easter egg hunts, fishing tournaments, and handing out goodies at Christmas. I was asked to help on the fishing tournament committee this year and it involves asking business both locally and major retailers for donations of fishing stuff for young kids for the prizes, and raffles. Is there a website that I can find out info as to what companies will donate (bass pro, cabala’s) also if anyone has done anything similar is it best to send out a letter with the groups letterhead and a little info about the group, or would email work best. They are focusing on getting families outside and doing things together and also trying to promote healthy activities too. So snack companies that focus on healthy snacks would help too.
Thanks for the help in advance.
Answer: You need to submit a request on the not for profit organization's letterhead include the tax exempt number. Also include what the org does and what part of the population benefits. Remember to thank the company just for considering your request. This gets mailed to corporate headquarters. You will find the address on the Corporations website. So if you search for Bass Pro their website will show. Usually up in the company's header is the Community Service address.

Which is the Best Charity to Donate to At Christmas?
If I was going to have a charity drive, and all the proceeds would be divided evenly between all 50 States, what charity would be best to donate to? This charity – donation drive will be at Christmas time. Thank you for your suggestions.

The holiday season is fast approaching. This means, chief among other things, fundraising time for the Samaritan’s Purse International annual Operation Christmas Child. And teaming up with a fundraiser for them is Moving Ahead Communications (MAC), an Ohio-based business support services company.
“Samaritan’s Purse operates wonderful emergency relief, community development, vocational programs worldwide for people of all ages,” said Diana Barnum, freelance writer and president of MAC. “And being a mom and teacher, I particularly like how they impact the lives of vulnerable children through their clothing, educational, feeding and shelter programs, letting them know they are not forgotten.”
Although MAC began 1984, with the design of greeting cards in Spanish, Arabic and Chinese, initial work began several years earlier, in 1979. During that year, the company’s founder, Diana Barnum, was awarded a Teaching Associate position at The Ohio State University, Department of Spanish, where many of the original concepts and materials for Moving Ahead were started. Over the years, the company has grown to help companies worldwide with a variety of business support services.
To help raise funds and support Samaritan’s Purse/Operation Christmas Child, MAC will donate ten percent of all purchases made through their Gift-Gallery division online at: to Operation Christmas Child.
“Filling a shoebox is a fun activity for families, church groups and other companies and organizations to do together,” said Barnum. “You can set up mini-assembly lines in your homes and have Operation Shoebox parties, filling up boxes with donations contributed by everyone while enjoying snacks and fellowship. Kids also like to join in and often fill up shoeboxes on their own with their allowance and other Christmas funds they’ve saved. An area lacking, though, is money for shipping a lot of these boxes overseas. And that’s where we want to help – plus fill gaps with more shoebox gifts and shoeboxes (we like to donate plastic shoe-sized boxes over traditional cardboard ones so that children and their families can use them year-round for storage).”
Samaritan’s Purse
Samaritan’s Purse International was created based on the biblical mandate found in Luke 10:30-37, describing how the Samaritan rescued a hurting man whom others had passed by, Jesus told His hearers, “Go and do likewise.” The world-renowned group Samaritan’s Purse aids the world’s poor, sick and suffering, offering food, medicine and assistance through emergency relief programs, among them its holiday flagship program, Operation Christmas Child.
Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas Child provides gift-filled shoe boxes for children around the world. Its overriding purpose is to help people of all ages be involved in providing toys and sharing God’s love to children around the globe. Operation Christmas Child purchases and accepts donations, toys and other presents that are placed into shoeboxes and then shipped around the world.
In 2005, nearly 7.6 million gift-filled shoeboxes were created and shipped to children in over 90 countries. Recommended gift ideas included small toys,
school supplies, hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, mild bar soap, comb, washcloth), hard candy, gum, T-shirts, socks, ball caps; sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra batteries). A note to the child (addressed for a possible reply from the recipient) and photo were in some.
Items not allowed in the shoeboxes included: used or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives or military figures; chocolate or food; liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow-globes or glass containers; aerosol cans.

Question: we desperately need charitable help (especially for xmas) but where can i go to apply/ask for it ?
my husband was injured at his last job and has been unable to work for months. we are barely getting by, about to be evicted, and i’m scared we won’t be able to give our son who’s only 1 christmas. my sister told me that last year her best friend’s family was “adopted” by a lady at tinker and she helped them and i’ve heard of “christmas connection” but i don’t know where to go, who to call, or basically how to go about asking or applying for the help. the only info i can find is all about ranking/ratings of different charities, where and how to donate to, or volunteer at them. we missed the last emsa backseat buddy day, and i haven’t even been able to find any other places or programs that will help me get a carseat for my little boy. i’d really deeply appreciate any information and/or help anyone might have.
thank you & happy holidays
Answer: Your son is only 1, he has no concept of Christmas. He certainly will not even notice if he gets nothing. For neccesities like food and carseats, look in the yellow pages under charitable organizations- there are lots of "family aid" resources that will help you out. If you are looking for money to buy a PS3, you should really think about your priorities in life.
