Charitable Giving Down In 2009

Chantel Daniel is an ambitious, vibrant and enthusiastic 24 year old, whose energy and passion to succeed stems from growing up in Tottenham, London, in a loving St Lucian family whose lifestyle was dictated by scarcities and personal challenges.

Raised by a single mother, along with four of her other siblings, Chantel has always maintained very happy and loving memories as a child and was never without food, warmth, laughter and love, despite their financial circumstances.

Despite coming from a large supportive family, Chantel was a rebellious teenager and left home at a young age in the pursuit of greater things.  This decision led to a range of life experiences that were traumatic for Chantel as she battled depression, homelessness and poverty which put her in situations in which she was the victim of physical violence and rape.

Throughout all of this, Chantel has had the determination to stay in education and fulfil her academic capabilities and is currently a part-qualified accountant.

This dedication to education and the belief that no goal is unattainable, is what attracted Chantel to Miss Black Britain.  Combining the chance to be a strong role model for Black women not just around Britain but around the globe, and most importantly she relished the idea of being able to support and highlight Plan UK’s campaign ‘Because I am a Girl’, which is the charitable initiative supported by Miss Black Britain.  ‘Because I am a Girl’ highlights the importance of education for girls in developing countries, to give them a better opportunity in life, and the chance to continue their education past primary school age. 

Chantel wants to win Miss Black Britain to become a role model to all people - men and women alike - in creating a social enterprise that embraces people of all backgrounds and ideas. Her main aim being to highlight to others, especially young girls, the value of respecting education and acknowledging that it is an avenue to a better life – not just in developing countries, but here in the UK as well.   The first step towards cultivating life ambition is to have a positive self image and a pride in yourself and your heritage and working through the things that cannot be changed – something Miss Black Britain aims to achieve, by showcasing, celebrating and embracing black beauty and the diversity of it – something that isn’t recognised as widely as it could be in mainstream media, so is an important for young Black women to feel they have an avenue to express themselves and celebrate their heritage.

The Simone Williams fashion label has been up and running since the summer of 2004 and is based in Hoxton, London. It is a label keen to support and encourage women from all backgrounds to achieve the very best in life.  By creating a one-off piece for Chantel Daniel the label hopes to encourage more young women to go for what they want in life and to recognise their true beauty within.

Computer Donations To Non Profits

Question: Are we allowed to deduct expenses related to working on Wikipedia articles or only cash contributions?

Wikipedia is a non-profit foundation (charity); a deduction is allowed for monetary donations. What about (for example) electricity used by our computers while writing/revising an article, mileage to drive to the library to do research, etc.?

(Yahoo! Answers is part of Yahoo! Inc., which is a for-profit business, so we cannot deduct any donations to it.)

Answer: Wikipedia is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses directly related to services provided by you to Wikipedia are deductible as a charitable donation. Keep proper records to document your out-of-pocket expenses, if you have any. You cannot deduct the value of your time.

Question: What are some flaws with John Edward’s Campaign?

I have to make a presentation for my history class explaining the flaws of John Edward’s Campaign. I have searched the net, watched some of his speeches, and concluded the following:

- Believes in 100% Universal health care, which will cost $90 – $120 billion a year.

- Wants to get rid of 2% business tax rate

- Wants to immediately remove 40,000 to 50,000 troops out of Iraq

- College tuition should be free if students are willing to work for it

- Doesn’t believe that cheap labor in China helps us

Those are the only things that I could find that would be possibly considered a flaw in his plan. Expensive and disaterus if done incorrectly.
Please help! I’m not asking that you do the project for me, but please just give me a few hints or point me in the right direction please! Thank you!

Answer: What a good job you are doing! Good insight! I think the flaw is him. He speaks out of both sides of his mouth. He speaks about helping the middle class and the poor but he spends 400/500 dollars on a hair cut! He speaks about the envirement and he uses more energy in a day than most people use in a month! How's he feel about the Death Tax? What about a 'cap' on sueing doctors? Check out how he made his $$$$ as a lawyer! This guy is so far 'left' it's scarey! His greatest flaw is that he does not care about the middle class - he is quite comfortable with his 'two Americas'. You don't see him giving anything up! Check out his votes on taxes! Good luck.

Business Tax Planning 2009

Question: So why have Labour and Tories united to bring down local Income Tax?

The SNP have announced that they have shelved their plans to bring in local income tax in Scotland, due to lack of support for the idea in Holyrood.

Local income tax would have replaced council tax with a 3p in the pound local income tax. It seems rather perverse to block something that was a step away from the archaic council tax system.

It seems to me that the current council tax system only benefits the better off. I know someone who earns £25,000 pounds a year and currently pays nothing, as they live with their retired parents. While we have to fork out the full whack every month. It just doesn’t seem right.

I’m not saying I support either SNP, Labour, Tory or Liberal etc. I just liked the idea. It seems fairer to me.

What’s your opinion on local income tax?

Answer: They don't support the idea - people pay income tax already on their earnings. This doesn't make the Conservatives in any way 'united' with Labour. Why would they considering how incompetent and disingenious Labour are ?
